Distribution of lectin receptors in the mouse oviduct during the peri-implantation period

Abstract: Objective: To explore the distribution pattern and dynamic changes of lectin receptors in the mucosa of mouse oviduct during peri-implantation period. Methods: Using biotin labelled ECL, UEA and PHA-L as probes, we examined the distribution and dynamic changes of their receptors with affinity cytochemistry and image analysis. Results: The receptors of ECL, UEA and PHA-L all existed in the mouse oviduct, but their levels and distribution patterns were different. The level of the ECL and the PHA-L receptors as higher at the estrus than that at the diestrus. ECL and PHA-L receptors maintained the lower level at the day 4 and 5 of pregnancy than those at the diestrus. The level of UEA receptor at diestrus was much higher than that at estrus and that of pregnancy. Conclusion: During peri-implantation, the decrease of the ECL and the PHA-L receptors may lead to the failure of implantation in the oviduct, and the increase of the UEA receptors at diestrus may contribute to the process of fertilization.
