Abstract: To analyze the treatment effects of the molecular adsorbent recycling system (MARS) for severe hepatitis and the related factors. Method123 patients with severe hepatitis were subjected to MARS as well as basic treatments. The effects of MARS and the related factors, such as the clinical types and stages of severe hepatitis, age of patients, and treatment times were analyzed. Result 48 patients were cured or improved (39%). The cure rates of early, mediate and advanced severe hepatitis were 80.8%, 46.5% and 13% respectively and of acute, subacute and chronic severe hepatitis were 14.3%, 55.6% and 42.9% respectively. The treatment effects of MARS had no positive relationship with the treatment times, but had some relationship with age. Conclusion MARS is effective in treating severe hepatitis, which is related to the age of patients and the clinical type and stage of severe hepatitis but not to the treatment times.
