Abstract: Air pollution has become the biggest environmental health problem worldwide, and China is faced with great environmental challenge. Numerous scientific studies have showed that short-term exposure to fine particulate matter(PM2.5)could impose acute health impacts. The author reviewed the latest epidemiological advances on the association of short-term PM2.5 exposure and related components with population health, summarized the health benefits from short-term control measures of air pollution, and proposed the feature research targets in the following 3-5 years.

Key words: Air pollution, Fine particulate matter, Components, Control measures, Acute health impact
