reactive protein levels in patients with acute coronary syndrome

Abstract: To explore the effects of 2week 20?mg/d and 40?mg/d simvastatin treatment on plasma levels of high sensitiveCreactive protein (hsCRP) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods86 patients with ACS were randomly divided into the conventional dose simvastatin group (n=43, 20?mg per day) and the highdose simvastatin group(n=43, 40?mg per day). Levels of total cholesterol(TC), triglycerides(TG), low density lipid cholesterol(LDLC), high density lipid cholesterol(HDLC) and hsCRP of all patients were determined before, one week and two weeks after the treatment. ResultsBoth TC and LDLC were decreased in the two groups (P<0.05), but the TG and HDLC levels were not significantly changed. The plasma hsCRP level had a downward trend in the two groups. The hsCRP level was more significantly decreased in the highdose group than in the conventional dose group (P<0.01). Correlation analysis showed that reduction of plasma hsCRP level was not related to changes of plasma lipid level. ConclusionHighdose simvastatin may significantly reduce serum lipid and plasma hsCRP levels in ACS patients and has an antiinflammatory therapeutic effect and may stabilize atherosclerotic plaques in the short term.
