Application of high tibial osteotomy combined with autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells injection in the repair of knee cartilage

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the efficacy of high tibial osteotomy(HTO)combined with autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells injection on cartilage repair in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods The clinical data of 2 patients with knee osteoarthritis treated with HTO combined with autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells injection were retrospectively analyzed, including preoperative and postoperative 1-year X-ray and MRI data, arthroscopic results, visual analogue score, and knee joint function score, so as to evaluate the effects on knee cartilage repair and knee joint function improvement. Results Preoperative MRI and intraoperative arthroscopy indicated knee cartilage injury in both patients. HTO combined with intra-articular injection of autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells was performed. Knee joint function recovered well 1 year after operation and articular cartilage regenerated. Conclusion For patients with knee osteoarthritis, HTO combined with autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells injection can effectively promote the repair of knee cartilage and improve the function of knee joint.
