Abstract: Female fertility declines with age, characterized by poor ovarian function and endometrial receptivity. Therefore, elder women who expect pregnancy should have their fertility evaluated first. At present, there is controversy as to the upper age limit for assisted reproductive technology, which is defined by most infertility centers as 43-45yrs. The focus of ART is to improve the quantity and quality of retrieved oocytes. For women without available oocytes, donation can be an alternative. In addition, age-related maternal and child risks should be taken into consideration.
