Survivin expression in bladder transitional cell carcinoma

Abstract: To explore the significance of Survivin expression in bladder transitional cell carcinoma (BTCC). MethodsImmunohistochemical (IHC) onestep method and RTPCR method were used to determine the expression of Survivin and Survivin mRNA in BTCC (n=40) and normal bladder mucosa (n=12); Survivin was investigated using the Western blot analysis in urine specimens or exfoliated urine cells (EUC) in BTCC (n=40) and nonBTCC (n=32). ResultsIHC indicated that expression level of Survivin in BTCC was 95.0% (P<0.01), RTPCR indicated that expression level of Survivin in BTCC was 100.0%(P<0.01), and Western blot indicated that expression level of Survivin in BTCC was 95.0%(P<0.01). Survivin was not expressed in normal bladder mucosa. Expression level of Survivin was strongly correlated with pathological grade and clinical stage (P<0.01). ConclusionSurvivin highly expresses in BTCC, suggesting that Survivin should be a good diagnostic and prognostic index of BTCC.
