Expression of the RASSF1A gene in endometrial carcinoma and its clinical significance

Abstract: Objective： To investigate the relationship between the transcriptional expression of RASSF1A(Ras association domain family 1A gene) and oncogenesis and the development of endometrial carcinoma. Method： RT-PCR was used to detect the expression of RASSF1A mRNA in 50 cases of endometrial carcinoma tissues and 20 cases of normal endometrial tissues. Results： ① RASSF1A mRNA was identified in all normal endometrial tissues, but not found in 54% of endometrial carcinoma tissues. ② The loss rate of RASSF1A mRNA was related with the surgical-pathological stage, lymphatic metastasis, myometrial infiltration depth and pathological subtype (P＜0.05), but was not related to patients' age or pathological grade (P＞0.05). Conclusion： Loss or abnormal down-regulation of RASSF1A mRNA is a frequent event in endometrial carcinogenesis, which may play an important role in the malignant progression and prognosis of endometrial carcinoma.
