Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 10 children with coronavirus disease(COVID-19)in Jinan City

Abstract: Objective To analysis the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 10 children with coronavirus disease(COVID-19)in Jinan City. Methods To collect the information of all the children(<18 years)with COVID-19 in Jinan City by Feb 26, 2020. The diagnosis was based on Chinas “COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment plan(fifth version)”. Data of general information, epidemiological and clinical characteristics were analyzed. Results Ten children with COVID-19 were reported, including 3 males and 7 females. Age distribution included all stages of children. All the 10 confirmed cases of children were family transmitted cases. Parents were the main source of infection in the active sampling and monitoring of close contacts. The shortest time interval from onset to diagnosis was 0 days, the longest was 6 days, and the median time interval was 1.5 days. The clinical symptoms of COVID-19 were mild(3 cases)and common(7 cases). Five children had no symptoms when they were detected the new coronavirus nucleic acid positive for the first time. As of Feb 26, 6 of the 10 confirmed cases were discharged, with a median length of stay was 15 days. Conclusion Family infection is the main source of infection for children. It is important to carry out centralized isolation medical observation and active sampling monitoring of close contacts for early detection of cases.
