Analysis of a family cluster outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 in Jinan City

Abstract: Objective To analyze the transmission chain of a family cluster outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in Jinan City in order to provide scientific basis for the prevention and control strategies. Methods According to the “COVID-19 Diagnosis and Treatment Plan”, the first case was investigated to track the close contacts and analyze the transmission chain. Close contacts received 2019-nCoV nucleic acid test. Results A total of 5 cases were tracked, including 3 common cases, 1 mild case and 1 asymptomatic case. The first case had onset on Jan. 25, 2020, and the other cases had onset 4 to 7 days later. All family members lived and dined together, which imposed high risk of transmission. Cases B, C, D and E were second generation cases, and the transmission chain was clear. It was obviously a family cluster. Conclusion Early detection of the infection source and screening of close contact are significant for the prevention and control of COVID-19. Strategies of early detection, early report, early quarantine and early diagnosis should be strictly implemented.
