Investigation of a COVID-19 case with unknown cause and its close contacts

Abstract: Objective To retrospectively analyze a family cluster of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)with unknown cause in Jinan City. Methods One case of COVID-19 and two second-generation cases were investigated using field epidemiological methods, and 29 close contacts were quarantined. All cases received nucleic acid test with RT-PCR. Results All three cases were family clusters. The initial case(case A)had a short history of travel before onset, but the source of infection was unclear. Cases B and C lived with case A and were infected. Other close contacts with short contact time, low contact frequency and protective measures showed no abnormalities and were tested negative. Conclusion As 2019-nCoV is highly infectious, early detection and early screening of close contacts should be the focus of prevention and control.
