Abstract: To observe the effects of music therapy for the concentration of serum lipids of psychological stress rabbit models and to investigate its possible mechanism. MethodsForty New Zealand male rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups: the control group (A), the music group (B), the psychological stress group (C) and the psychological stress plus music group (D). Group B was given music 4 hours each day. Group C was given psychological stress. Group D was given music 4 hours and psychological stress each day. The experiment period was 8 weeks. The concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDLc), and neuropeptide Y (NPY) were determined at the beginning and end of the experiment, and HDL/LDL was calculated. At the end of the experiment, abdominal aorta of the rabbits was taken out and dyed with rathonum red O which was used to examine the degree of lipidoses in vessel walls. ResultsThe concentration of TC, TG, LDL, HDL, NPY and HDL/LDL was significantly different between group A and group C (P<0.05) and between group C and group D (P<0.05), the quantity of lipidoses in the vessel walls of group D was obviously less than that of group C. ConclusionsMusic therapy can alleviate increased serum lipids induced by chronic psychological stress, and the mechanism might relate to music controlling NPY secretion.
