Effect of valproic acid on angiogenesis of human ovarian cancer in nude mice

Abstract: To investigate the inhibitory effect of valproic acid(VPA)on angiogenesis of human ovarian cancer in nude mice. MethodsHuman ovarian cancer models were established by subcutaneous transplantation in nude mice, and then they were divided into 4 groups: the control group, the VPA group, the cisplatin (DDP) group and the VPA+DDP group. The anti-tumor efficacy was evaluated by determination of tumor volume, tumor growth and relative tumor curative rate. Also expression levels of CD105 and sFlk-1 were determined by immunocytochemistry (IC). Results① Tumor volumes in the experimental groups were smaller than those in the control group; ② Expression levels of CD105 in the experimental groups were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05); and ③ Expression levels of sFlk-1 in the experimental groups were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). ConclusionsVPA can inhibit the growth of ovarian cancer by decreasing the expression of CD105 and increasing the expression of sFlk-1 levels.
