Abstract: To investigate the effects of glycyrrhizae water-extraction on rats with chronic renal failure(CRF) and its mechanism. Methods30 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: the sham operation group, the simple operation group and the therapy group, 10 rats in every group. On the 9th and 13th weeks, the 24h urine protein, urine creatinine and MDA levels were determined, the activities of Scr and SeGSHPx and the expression of AOPPs were determined, also the Ccr was calculated. Nephridial tissue homogenate was prepared and the activity of SeGSHPx, MDA and AOPPs were determined. Results24?h urine protein and Scr were obviously lower in the therapy group than those in the simple operation group(P<0.05). Ccr and the activity of SeGSHPx of blood serum and nephridial tissue homogenate of the therapy group were obviously higher than those of the simple operation group (P<0.05). The MDA levels of nephridial tissue homogenate and urine in the therapy group were obviously lower than those of the simple operation group(P<0.05). Also, the AOPPs activities of blood serum and nephridial tissue homogenate in the therapy group were obviously lower than those of the simple operation group (P<0.05). All indexes were significantly different among the three groups. ConclusionGlycyrrhizae waterextraction provides a protective effect on renal function in rats with CRF, which is related to its antioxidation reaction.
