Wavefront aberration in children with refraction amblyopia

Abstract: Objective To study the characteristics and role of wavefront aberrations in children with refractive amblyopia. Methods 83 children with refractive amblyopia were involved. After using 1% atropine ointment, once a day for three!days, optometry was determined by retinoscopy optometry and computer optometry, then the wavefront aberrations were determined by Allegretto wavefront analyzer after 20 days. The characteristics and disturbs of all kinds of high order wavefront aberrations in amblyopia patients of refraction error were observed, and the relationship between amblyopia and wavefront aberration was also observed. ResultThe total root mean square (RMS) values were significantly related to the refractive power in diopters (P＜0.05), and the aberrations of trefoil, coma and sperical increased with an increase of the astigmatism power. Conclusion Aberrations increase with an increase of refractive power in diopters and astigmatism is significantly related to the high aberrations. Analysis of the high order aberrations is helpful in discovering the cause of refractive astigmatism.
