Abstract: Objective To compare the efficacy of 22 MHz ultra-high-frequency ultrasound and 13 MHz high-frequency ultrasound in assessing the clinical condition of superficial infantile hemangiomas. Methods We collected the two-dimensional ultrasound images and color Doppler flow images of the same section of 33 patients whose tumors depth was less than 1cm with 22 MHz and 13 MHz ultrasound separately, selected the 1 cm×1 cm areas just under the probe from these color Doppler flow images and analyzed them by software Image Magick. After that, we classified these two-dimensional ultrasound images according to whether the boundary of the tumors could be recognized and compared the results. We then separated every color Doppler flow image into two parts from the depth of 0.5cm to compare the two types of ultrasounds’ ability to display the blood flow. Results 22 MHz ultra-high-frequency ultrasound was inferior to 13 MHz high-frequency ultrasound in distinguishing the boundary of tumors(χ2=0.44, P=0.51). There was no difference between the two types of ultrasounds in identifying the depth of tumors in color Doppler flow images(0-0.5 cm: t=-9.38, P<0.05; 0.5-1.0 cm: t=4.59, P<0.05). There was no difference in displaying total blood 山 东 大 学 学 报 (医 学 版)54卷12期 -吴义良,等.超高频超声与高频超声在浅表性婴幼儿血管瘤中的应用 \=-flow(t=-1.63, P=0.11). Conclusion Compared with 13 MHz high-frequency ultrasound, 22 MHz ultra-high-frequency ultrasound can provide clearer two-dimensional ultrasound images and color Doppler flow images with more blood flow about a superficial infantile hemangioma when the depth of the tumor is less than 0.5 cm.
