Human cytomegalovirus infection upregulates expression of LOX1 in
rabbit smooth vascular muscle cells

Abstract: To investigate the effect of human cytomegalovirus(HCMV) infection on expression of lectinlike oxidized lowdensity lipoprotein receptor1 in rabbit smooth vascular muscle cells, and to show its role in the formation of atherosclerosis (AS). MethodsExpression of LOX1 in rabbit smooth vascular muscle cells which were affected by HCMV ADl69 was analyzed by reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction and Western blotting. ResultsHCMV infection upregulated the expression of LOX1 in rabbit smooth vascular muscle cells. ConclusionHCMV infection upregulates the expression of LOX1 and this may be one of the mechanisms by which Human cytomegalovirus is involved in atherosclerosis.
