Abstract:

Objective To detect expressions of VEGF-C,NF-κBp65 and Survivin in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) and chronic nasopharyngitis and to explore their role in the development of NPC as well as their interrelationships.MethodsImmunohistochemical (streptavidin-perosidase SP) method was used to analyze protein expressions of VEGF-C, NF-κBp65 and Survivin in paraffin embedded tissues from 57 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and 20 cases of chronic nasopharyngitis and their relation to clinical pathological characteristics of NPC was analyzed. Results  Positive rates of VEGF-C,NFκBp65 and Survivin protein in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues were 73.68%(42/57), 61.40%(35/57), and 68.42%(39/57), and in chronic nasopharyngitis tissues were 40.00%, 30.00%, and 20.00%, and the differences were significant between nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues and chronic nasopharyngitis tissue (P<0.05). Expressions of VEGF-C, NF-κBp65 and Survivin were closely related to lymph node metastasis and clinical pathological stage(P<0.05). In addition NFκBp65 protein expression had a positive correlation with both VEGF-C and Survivin, and expression of VEGF-C was positively correlated with that of Survivin. Conclusion NF-κBp65 contributes to the pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and lymph node metastasis by upregulating expressions of VEGF-C and Survivin. VEGF-C and Survivin may have synergetic effects on the pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
