Abstract:

Objective To explore the role of serum transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1) in the recurrence of Graves disease.  Methods  60 cases of Graves disease were divided into 3 groups: the new diagnosis group, the 3-month treatment group, and the recurrence group. 20 healthy persons served as the control group. Serum TGF-β1 and TRAb levels were determined by ELISA, and levels of serum thyroid hormone, TPOAb and TGAb were determined by electrochemiluminescence.  Results  The TGF-β1 level of the new diagnosis and recurrent groups was significantly higher than that of the control group（P<0.01）, of the 3-month treatment group was significantly lower compared with the new diagnosis group（P<0.01）, and of the recurrent group was lower than that of the new diagnosis group but higher than that of the 3-month treatment group（P<0.01）. Conclusion Serum TGF-β1 may be involved in the occurrence of Graves disease and its recurrence.
