Photoselective vaporization of the prostate for the treatment of benign prostatic obstruction in patients with Parkinsons disease

Abstract: Objective To study the efficacy and safety of photoselective vaporization of the prostate(PVP)for the treatment of BPO in patients with PD. Methods A total of 20 patients with PD(excluding MSA)who underwent PVP for BPO were enrolled from July 2008 to May 2016. The average age was(69.85±3.12)years. The average IPSS was 23.40±5.89 and the average Qmax was(5.75±1.71)mL/s. All patients were diagnosed as BPO with PD for dysuresia. Paired t test for comparison was used to evaluate the efficacy of PVP between the groups. Results All 20 patients underwent the surgeries successfully. The average operation time, IPSS and Qmax at the 3 months after surgery were(66.3±13.10)minutes, 7.10±2.59 and(14.03±4.40)mL/s, respectively. Mild urge urinary incontinence occurred and voiding symptoms were improved after pelvic floor muscle training in 4 patients. Conclusion PVP is a safe and effective treatment for BPO in patients with PD.
