Abstract:

Objective   To study the correlation between thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) levels and different types of chronic hepatic damage in patients with chronic hepatic diseases. Methods   Blood samples were collected from 84 patients with chronic hepatic diseases (“Patient Group”) and 52 healthy individuals (“Control Group”).  Plasma levels of TAFI: A, plasminogen activator inhibitor(PAI-1)and tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA)were measured using a chromogenic substrate method and ELISA. Results   Compared with the Control Group, the Patient Group had significantly low TAFI levels (P<0.05), high PAI-1 levels (P<0.05), and high t-PA levels(P<0.05, except for the patients with primary biliary cirrhosis). Conclusion   In patients with chronic hepatic diseases, the  diminished plasma TAFI levels can ramp up fibrinolysis. This is an indicator of bleeding tendency.
