Abstract:

Objective  To investigate the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of extra-abdominal desmoid-type fibromatoses. Methods  Plain and dynamic contrastenhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) was performed on 7 patients with extra-abdominal desmoid-type fibromatoses confirmed by surgery and pathology. The imaging features including location, dimension, edge, shape, signal intensity, enhancement pattern, and the time-signal intensity curve (TIC) of the lesions were analyzed. Results  On MR images, six lesions were infiltrative, while one was expansive. All lesions exhibited heterogeneity, with isointensity on T1WI and slight hyperintensity on T2WI. In all lesions, cordlike or patch-like low signal could be found. All lesions showed heterogeneous enhancement, and the time-signal intensity curves of the enhanced portions within the lesion demonstrated continuous ascending trend. Conclusion  Plain and DCE-MRI can characterize the imaging features as the shape, signal and enhancement pattern of extra-abdominal desmoid-type fibromatoses, which may have potential role in differential diagnosis.
