Expressions of SnailmRNA and protein in hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract:

Objective  To investigate expressions of Snail mRNA and protein and the relationship of expression with invasion and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods  Expression of the Snail protein was detected by the immunohistochemical SP method in 70 cases of HCC tissues and their para-tumour tissues. Expression of SnailmRNA were detected by RT-PCR in 40 cases of fresh HCC tissues and their para-tumour tissues. Correlations of  expressions of Snail protein and SnailmRNA with clinicopathological features were analyzed. Results  Expression of Snail protein was significantly higher in cancer tissues than in paratumour tissues(P<0.05). Expression of Snail protein in carcinoma tissue was correlated with capsular invasion, portal vein invasion and intra-hepatic metastasis(P<0.05). Expression of SnailmRNA was significantly higher in cancer tissues than in para-tumour tissues(P<0.05). Expression of SnailmRNA in carcinoma tissue was correlated with capsular invasion and portal vein invasion but was not correlated with intrahepatic metastasis(P<0.05). Conclusion  The malignant transformation, invasion and metastasis of HCC  may be related to over-expressions of SnailmRNA and protein and Snail is expected to become a new target for the treatment of liver cancer.
