Abstract:

Objective  To compare the effects of two doses of epinephrine in a swine model of pronged ventricular fibrillation. Methods  Sixteen domestic swine were randomly divided  into two groups and received a standard dose of epinephrine (Sepi-gro, 0.02mg/kg) or  a high dose of epinephrine (Hepi-gro, 0.1mg/kg) . Ventricular fibrillation (VF) was electrically induced and sustained for eight minutes. Then 2 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, shock and epinephrine were successively given. Hemodynamics and restoration of spontaneous circulation(ROSC) were observed. Results  ROSC rates were identical in both groups. Hemodynamics and successful defibrillation rate had no significant differences between the two groups. Conclusion  A high dose of Epinephrine does not i
mprove hemodynamics, ROSC rate   and successful defibrillation rate.

Key words: Epinephrine; Prolonged ventricular fibrillation; Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
