Abstract:

Objective    To study the ability of village doctors in tuberculosis (TB) case detection and management. Methods    The sample was randomly chosen with the cluster-based sampling method and the subjects were interviewed by using a self-made questionnaire. Results   37.6 % of village doctors had found TB symptoms and suspects; village doctors contributive degree in TB case detection was 74.5%; 36.2% of the village doctors had managed TB patients, and TB patients managed degree was 84.1%; 83.0% of the village doctors had education on tuberculosis prevention and cure for people and TB patients. Conclusions    Village doctors do not achieve the desired results in TB case detection and management. A TB-related training program for village doctors should be reinforced, and the realization of DOTS (directly observed treatment, shortcourse) policy and the quality of village doctors should be improved.
