Trans-bronchial needle aspiration in diagnosing extra bronchial lesions

Abstract:

Objective  To investigate the diagnostic value of transbronchial needle aspiration(TBNA) in extra bronchial lesions. Methods  TBNA procedures were performed by using a flexible bronchoscope in 87 patients with extra bronchial lesions which were proven by CT scanning and could not be diagnosed by conventional bronchoscopy. Results  The total diagnostic yield of TBNA was 94.3% with a tumor diagnostic rate of 86.2%. Except for 8 patients who had a little bleeding at the puncture sites, no serious complications occurred during TBNA. Conclusion  TBNA is a safe, simple and effective way for diagnosing extra bronchial lesions with a high diagnostic rate and minor injuries.
