CT cisternography in the classification and treatment of 
childhood intracranial arachnoid cyst

Abstract:

To assess the application value of CT cisternography (CTC) in the diagnosis and treatment of childhood intracranial arachnoid cyst (IAC). MethodsCTC was performed on 19 patients with intracranial arachnoid cysts to identify whether the cysts were communicating. NCIAC accompanied with apparent clinical symptoms or dysplasia of local brain lobe served as indications of operations. After the operations, patients were given CTC again to evaluate the therapeutic effect. Results6 cases had communicating intracranial arachnoid cysts (CIAC), and 13 cases had noncommunicating intracranial arachnoid cysts (NCIAC). Postoperative CTC demonstrated that all the cysts communicated  well with the cistern. ConclusionCTC is a simple and reliable method for classification and diagnosis of childhood IAC, but it is a traumatic examination for patients.
