Evaluation of dual source CT angiography in diagnosis of
etiopathogenisis in vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency

Abstract: To investigate the diagnostic value of dual source CT angiography (DSCTA) on etiopathogenisis of vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency (VBI) by utilizing DSCTA to display pathological changes of vertebrobasilar arteries. Methods43 patients suspected of vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency(VBI)were subjected to DSCTA. Then the original data were transported to the workstation MMWP8818 for restitution postprocessing. The vertebrobasilar arteries were evaluated by correlated grading rules. ResultsOf the 86 vertebral arteries in 43 patients, 12 arteries in 6 patients were normal. Of the 74 arteries in 37 patients, 27 arteries had stenosis, in which 21 arteries were caused by scleratheroma plaque and 6 arteries by cervical vertebrae oppression, 18 arteries had circuity, 18 arteries had inborn variation, and 1 artery had an aneurysm. Some of the arteries had more than two kinds of pathological changes. By DSCTA, 37 of 43 patients had etiopathogenisis (86%). In a contrast analysis between DSCTA and DSA, the coincidence rate of vertebral stenosis with DSCTA in sensitivity and specificity was 84.6% and 94.7%. ConclusionDSCT angiography has conspicuous superiority in displaying the pathological changes of vertebrobasilar arteries by various kinds of postprocessing skills, and DSCT angiography may become a conventional imaging examination for VBI.
