Mental health of rural left-behind children and their family cohesion and adaptability

Abstract: To study the situation of left-behind children′s mental health, family intimacy and adaptability. Methods500 left-behind children in the Jining area and the Linyi area were enrolled and MHT and FACESⅡ—CV questionnaires were used. ResultsThe statistics showed that left-behind children′s mental health varied based on gender. Children whose parents both worked outside behaved quite differently compared with those whose father or mother worked outside. Also, different guardians would exert different influences on the children. The key factors affecting leftbehind children′s family function were the state of parents′ going out for work, living conditions, gender and grade. Conclusion Left-behind children′s mental health is serious. The state of leftbehind children′s family cohesion and adaptability is not optimistic. The mental health of leftbehind children is closely related to family intimacy and adaptability.
