Effects of alveolar defect repair by Perioglas and HPPA on the orthodontic tooth movement: an experimental study

Abstract: Objective: To observe the movement of rats′ molars at the area of defective alveolar bone filled with Perioglas and Hydroxyl poly calcium sodium phosphate (HPPA). Methods: Fortyfour female Wistar rats with alveolar bone defect were randomly divided into two groups: Perioglas and HPPA groups. Orthodontic appliances were fixed to draw the maxillary first molar after 12 weeks. Distances of maxillary first molar movement were measured after 20 weeks. Results: Movement distances of the first molar were not significantly different between the Perioglas group and the normal contralateral group or between the HPPA group and the normal contralateral group(P>0.05). Conclusion: The rats′ teeth can be moved with orthodontic force at the alveolar bone filled with Perioglas and HPPA, and there were no significant differences of the movement distance of a tooth in the side filled with materials and in the contralateral side.
