Abstract:

Objective    To explore the pathogens in sub-gingival plaque of patients with coronary heart disease and periodontitis, and to discuss the relationship between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease. Methods   All patients with chronic periodontitis in this study were randomly selected. Patients without coronary heart disease including 25 males and 18 females were selected as the control group and patients with coronary heart disease including 23 males and 17 females were selected as the experimental group. All patients underwent a clinical periodontal examination including probing depth (PD), bleeding probing (BOP), and attachment loss (AL). Subgingival plaque was collected. The real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) was used to test the two groups′ subgingival plaque with five pathogens: Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans (Aa), Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), Prevotella intermedia (Pi), Bacteroides forsythus (Bf) and Treponema denticola (Td). Results   There were significant differences in periodontal indexes between the two groups. In the statistical analysis for the realtime PCR of five pathogens, only the result of Pg showed a significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusions    The periodontal indexes of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. Periodontitis patients with a high content of pg have a high incidence ofcoronary heart disease.
