Abstract:

Objective  To investigate expressions of secreted frizzled related protein-1 (sFRP-1) and Wnt-1 in patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical carcinoma. Methods  sFRP-1 and Wnt-1 were detected by immunohistochemistry(SABC)in normal cervical tissue, low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions(LSIL), high-grade squamous intraepitheliallesions (HSIL) and cervical carcinoma, and expressions of sFRP-1 and Wnt-1mRNAin normal cervical tissue and cervical carcinoma were detected using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). Results  Expression of sFRP-1 in cervical carcinoma was significantly weaker than in HSIL and LSIL, and in LSIL was weaker than in normal cervical tissues. Expression of Wnt-1 was strongest in cervical carcinoma and lowest in normal cervical tissues, and it was stronger in HSIL than in LSIL. Conclusion  Lower expression of sFRP-1 and over expression of Wnt-1 play important roles in the development from cervical intraepithelial neoplasia to cervical carcinoma.
