Abstract:

To evaluate digital X ray video of swallowing angiography in patients with dysphagia caused by cervical spondylosis. Methods175 patients with cervical spondylotic dysphagia were examined with digital Xray swallowing video, and then the video was analyzed framebyframe to count the number and location of hyperplasias of the cervical vertebra, and the width and depth of the impressions in the pharynx or esophageal posterior walls. ResultsIn the 175 patients, 396 liplike or beaklike hyperplasias were found in anterior edges of vertebral bodies, and 331 impressions were found in the pharynx or esophageal posterior walls. One impression was found in each of 82 cases (46.5%), two impressions were found in each of 30 cases (17.2%), and three impressions were found in each of 63 cases (36.3%). Impressions at C3/4, C4/5, C5/6, C6/7 and C7/T1 intervertebral space levels accounted for 9(2.7%), 78(23.6%), 154(46.5%), 81(24.5%), and 9(2.7%) respectively. Mild, moderate and severe impressions accounted for 216(65.2%), 75(22.6%), and 40(12.2%) respectively. ConclusionDigital Xray video of swallowing angiography is intuitive, accurate and detailed to analyze the cervical vertebra changes in bones and compression situation of the pharynx or esophageal walls in patients with dysphagia caused by cervical spondylosis.
