Abstract:

To explore the effect of calcium dobesilate on diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin. MethodsWistar rats were randomly divided into the normal control group(N), the diabetic group(DM) and the diabetic group treated with calcium dobesilate(T). Rats in the T group were fed with calcium dobesilate for 8 weeks. At the end of the 8th week, rats were killed for light microscopy and electron microscopy. Then expressions of PAI1 and MMP9 were determined by immunohistochemistry. ResultsCompared with the N group, rats in the DM group had abnormal cardiac ultrastructure with confusion of myofibril and swelling and gathering of mitochondria. VG staining showed that the collagen content was increased in diabetic rat hearts. Expression of PAI1 was increased in diabetic myocardium, while expression of MMP9 was obviously decreased. The above trends were significantly improved in the T group. ConclusionCalcium dobesilate postpones the development of diabetic cardiomyopathy through inhibiting myocardial fibrosis.
