Abstract:

Objective    To study the awareness, attitude and behavior towards AIDS among university students in Jinan, Shandong Province. Methods    Using a random sampling method, 255 students(94 students of arts, 65 students of science, 59 students of engineering, and 37 students of medicine) in a university in Shandong Province were selected, and were investigated by a voluntary and anonymous questionnaire.  Results     The rate of awareness about AIDS knowledge was relatively high in the university. The rate of awareness about AIDS knowledge in graduate students was higher than that in undergraduate students (P<0.05). The awareness rate in medical students was higher than in students of other majors(P<0.05). The awareness rate in students of arts was the lowest (P<0.05). For undergraduate students, the awareness rate in freshmen was higher than in students of other grades. 53.3% of university students still believed that HIV could spread through mosquito bites, and 22.0% of them would keep a distance and end the friendship,if his or her friend was diagnosed with HIV or AIDS.  Conclusion     The rates of awareness about HIV/AIDS knowledge, as well as the attitude and behavior towards AIDS, are different in university students of different majors, education degrees and grades. HIV/AIDS health education should be strengthened based on different university students.
