Abstract: To investigate the efficacy of triamcinolone acetonide and sodium hyaluronate for treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) osteoarthrosis of goats. Methods: The upper compartments of both joints of 9 goats were injected with collagenase to induce osteoarthrosis. The 9 goats were devided into 3 groups, 3 goats per group. The upper compartments of both TMJs in three goats in control group were injected with 1ml physiological saline and in the two treatment groups were injected with 1ml triamcinolone acetonide and sodium hyaluronate, respectively. The TMJs of goats were examined under light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy after being sacrificed, and were scored in a subjective manner following the standard criteria which was a modification of the method of Mankin, et al and Yoshimi, et al. Results: Under light microscopy, the treatment group with sodium hyaluronat showed a light osteoarthrotic changes and the treatment group with triamcinolone acetonide showed more severe osteoarthrotic changes when comparing with the control group. Result under scanning electron microscopy accorded with the result under microscopy. Conclusion: On the basis of 3month following up, intraarticular injection of triamcinolone acetonide will aggravate the osteoarthrotic changes while intraarticular
