Abstract: Objective To analyze the morphological and positional characteristics of the glenoid fossa and mandible in patients with hypodivergent pattern by cone beam computed tomography(CBCT). Methods The imaging data of 51 patients were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into hypodivergent group(n=27)and normal group(n=24)according to ∠MP-FH and ∠MP-SN. A total of 17 measurements were used to analyze the mandibular morphology and position. Results There were no significant differences in the shape and size of the glenoid fossa between the two groups(P>0.05). The difference was mainly manifested in the shape and size of the mandible. The posterior inclination of the condyle in the hypodivergent group was significantly smaller than that in the normal group(P<0.01), while the length of the mandibular body was significantly greater(P<0.01). The mandible rotated counterclockwise in patients with hypodivergent pattern. Conclusion The temporomandibular fossa of patients with hypodivergent pattern has no obvious abnormality. The inclination of condyle and the morphology of the mandible should be considered during the orthodontic treatment.
