Abstract: Lumbar posterolateral fusion(PLF)has been commonly used in lumbar surgery. In the previous years, due to the characteristics of posterolateral anatomy, mechanics of intertransverse fusion and deficiency of bone graft tools and internal fixation, the fusion rate was impaired and lumbar PLF was gradually replaced by other fusion techniques. 山 东 大 学 学 报 (医 学 版)57卷5期 -郑燕平,等.腰椎后外侧融合术在腰椎退变性疾患手术中应用的再认识 \=-Currently, along with the emergence and development of various operative approaches, surgical skills, advanced tools, bone graft materials, and internal fixation techniques, PLF is reused in the treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases and has achieved satisfactory fusion ratio. However, more remains to be done to explore the biomechanical characteristics and clinical effects of lumbar PLF when it is used in the treatment of lumbar vertebral instability, lumbar spondylolisthesis and multi-segment lumbar degenerative diseases.

Key words: Lumbar vertebral fusion, Lumbar posterlateral fusion, Lumbar degenerative disease
