Abstract: Objective To investigate the occurrence of non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)among senior high school students and the moderating role of gender between parenting styles and NSSI. Methods A total of 641 grade two students(male 308, female 333, aged 15-18)were surveyed with general demographic information questionnaire, adolescent self-injury questionnaire and parental bonding instrument(PBI). Results The detection rate of NSSI was 32.1%, which was 30.2% among male and 33.9% among female students(P>0.05). There were differences between male and female students in 5 behavior patterns, 1 behavior cause and 1 external stimulus event of NSSI(P<0.05). Logistic stratified stepwise regression showed that paternal care(OR=0.926)was a protective factor for NSSI; gender moderated the relationship between maternal control and NSSI; maternal control(OR=1.102)was a risk factor for NSSI among female students. Conclusion The occurrence of NSSI is common and the behavior patterns are diverse in grade two students. Gender plays a moderating role in the relationship between parenting styles and NSSI.
