Abstract: In September 2012, the World Health Organization(WHO) reported 2 cases of novel coronavirus infection whose clinical manifestation was similar to those infected by SARS. In May 2013, WHO named the novel coronavirus infection disease as "Middle East respiratory syndrome(MERS)". Recently, the number of infectious cases is increasing in the Middle East including Saudi Arabia and some European countries. The high mortality rate has caused extensive concern around the world. The latest progress of MERS on its incidence, epidemiology, etiology as well as prevention and control is reviewed in the current review.
