Abstract: Objective: To explore the association of genetic polymorphism of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases(COPD). Methods: 70 patients with COPD (the COPD group)and 70 healthy volunteers (the control group ) were enrolled in this study. Limosis peripheral blood was taken and whole blood corpuscle genomic DNA was extracted. The genetic polymorphism of SOD1-3 genes was determined by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP). Result: There were no logistic differences between the COPD and the control groups in the genetic polymorphism of SOD1(CuZn-SOD) and SOD2(Mn-SOD), however, there were logistic differences in the genetic polymorphism of SOD3(EC-SOD)(P<0.05). Conclusion: SOD3(EC-SOD)genetic polymorphism (C+760G,Arg213Gly) is related to the development of COPD and it may be the COPDrelated gene.
