Abstract: To explore the clinical value of the serum content of HGF in ovarian epithelial carcinomas, also to explore the relationship between HGF, cMet protein expression and the clinical pathological figures in patients with ovarian epithelial carcinomas. Methods: Serum samples from 67 ovarian epithelial carcinomas, 25 benign epithelial tumors and 30 healthy volunteers were examined the HGF content by the quantitative ELISA, and the HGF and its receptor cMet protein expression by immunohistochemistry. Results: Firstly, the HGF levels before surgery in ovarian epithelial carcinomas was significantly higher than those in ovarian benign tumors and control group (P<0.05). Secondly, HGF levels had significant association with tumor stage, histological grade, lymph node metastasis, and residual lesion before surgery, but not with histological type. Thirdly, the expression of HGF and cMet protein in ovarian epithelial carcinomas were significantly higher than that in benign epithelial tumors. Fourthly, there was significant association of HGF levels with clinical stage, histological grade, lymph node metastasis in ovarian epithelialcarcinomas, but not with histological type. Conclusions: HGF may be a new useful tumor marker for screening and monitoring malignant tumor patients, and its expression is correlated with the carcinogenesis and progress of ovarian epithelial carcinoma, both HGF and cMet may be significant prognostic factors of ovarian epithelial carcinoma.
