Comparative proteomic study of epileptic foci in  patients with epilepsy

Abstract:

Objective   To construct differential express frofilings of brain tissues obtained from epilepsy patients for exploring  the pathogenic mechanism and potential therapeutic targets of epilepsy. Methods   Differentially expressed proteins in epileptic foci of six patients were identified by two-dimensional fluorescence difference gel electrophoresis(2D-DIGE) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionizartion time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). Results   15 differentially  expressed proteins which showed at least 1.5 fold difference were detected in the six patients, of which 13 were down-regulated and 2 were up-regulated. Conclusion   Many differentially expressed proteins in epilepsy patients are identified, which may be involved in the pathogenesis of epilepsy.
