Abstract: Objective: To investigate the effect of rh-GH on experimental remodeling of powered periodontal tissues during orthodontic tooth movement in adult rats. Methods: Thirty female 7 week old SPF Wister rats were randomly divided into three groups: the control group, the NS group, the rh-GH group. The orthodontic tooth movement models were established by operation. The distance of tooth movement was measured and the periodontal tissues were histologically studied. Results: The distance of tooth movement of the control group was the shortest, that of the NS group was the longest, and that of the rhGH groual was shorter than that of the NS group and longer than that of the control group in the three groups. All the results had statistical significances. rh-GH significantly improved the periodontal membrane condition and may promote alveolar bone forming and inhibit bone resorption. Conclusion: rh-GH may slow the tooth movement of adult rats and improve the remodeling of powered periodontal tissues.
