Influential factors of the quality of life of adult patients with epilepsy

Abstract: To explore the quality of life of patients with epilepsy and to identify factors affecting the quality of life. MethodsThe Quality of Life in the Epilepsy 31 Inventory, the MOS item short from health survey 36, Self-rating Depression Scale, Self-rating Anxiety Scale were used to determine the quality of life of patients with epilepsy. ResultsScores of the quality of life were significantly lower in epilepsy patients than in normal people. Depression, anxiety, duration of epilepsy, seizure frequency, education level, seizure sum, age of epilepsy onset, and family education were the most significant factors affecting the quality of life(P<0.05). Gender and marital status were not factors influencing the quality of life(P>0.05). ConclusionThe quality of life of patients with epilepsy is significantly poorer than that of normal people. Depression and anxiety are the most significant factors affecting the quality of life and the most significant predictors for the quality of life.
