Echocardiography and BNP in assessment of the cardiacfunction in acute myocardial infarction

Abstract: To discuss the alteration of echocardiography and serum Btype natriuretic peptide(BNP) level in patients with ST-elevated myocardial infarction(STEMI) after facilitated percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods 27 cases were first attacked by STEMI in 12 hours and divided into two groups: 10 cases were treated with primary PCI and 17 with facilitated PCI. Results Compared with primary PCI groups, facilitated PCI groups had good cardiac function as detected by echocardiography at 1 month after PCI, while they had decreased serum BNP levels at 3 days and 1 month after PCI. Conclusion Facilitated PCI can effectively and safely protect cardiac function of patients with STEMI.
