Clinical effect of the plasma BNP levels in hypertensive patients

Abstract: Objective To explore the correlation between plasma BNP and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) in patients with hypertension. Methods Eightyfour patients were divided　into the LVH group and the control group based on the LVMI, also they were divided into the LVDD group and control group based on the LVDD. Results The BNP levels were positively correlated with LVMI and LVPWT (r=0.74 P<0.01; r=0.61 P<０.０1) and were negatively correlated with E/A and FPV (r=-0.66 P<0.01; r=-0.65, P<0.01). Conclusions BNP is a valuable biochemical quota for predicting LVH and LVDD in patients with normal left ventricular function.
