Clinical analysis of 86 cases with perforating injuries of eyeball in children

Abstract: Objective To analyze the causes and complications of 86 cases with perforating injuries of eyeball in children. Methods Various clinical parameters were analyzed on 86 children with perforating injuries of eyeball who were treated in Kunming Children's Hospital from September 2012 to April 2014. A statistical analysis was performed on the injury-causing instruments, children's age distribution, postoperative complications , etc. Results Perforating wounds of the eye in children are more frequently observed at the age of 3 to 6 and that accounts for 47.67% of all cases. Sharp metal is the main injury-causing instrument of perforating wounds of the eye in children, accounting for 46.51%. Tramatic cataract (45.35%) and discoria (33.72%) are the main complications of perforating wounds of the eye in children. Conclusion Due to the particularity of age of onset, complexity of pathogenetic condition and severity of vsual impairment, doctors, parents and the society should attach importantance to the perforating wounds of the eye in children. Prevention is better than cure.
