Abstract:

Objective     To investigate the levels of chemerin in the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM), and evaluate the relationship between chemerin and the T2DM patients with vasculopathy of lower extremities. Methods     Eighty T2DM patients and twenty healthy volunteers were selected as subjects, and the patients were further divided into four groups according to the degree of vasculopathy of lower extremities, including  T2DM without vasculopathy (DM0 group), T2DM with vascular intima thickening(DM1 group), T2DM with vascular intima cirrhosis (DM2 group), and T2DM with vascular intima stenosis (DM3 group). The plasma chemerin were measured by ELISA,and the relationship between the plasma chemerin and BMI, FTA%, HbA1c, HOMAinsulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) was analyzed. Results       The plasma chemerin of the patients were significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05), especially in the groups with vasculopathy of lower extremities. Correlation analysis showed that the levels of plasma chemerin were positively correlated to BMI(r=0.792),FAT%(r=0.717), HbA1c (r=0.418),  and HOMA-IR(r=0.684), respectively(P<0.01). Conclusion      The plasma-chemerin-in the T2DM  patients are increased, and the levels may be attributed to the development of vasculopathy of lower extremities.
