Abstract: To explore the inhibitory effect of polypeptide extract from scorpion venom (PESV) on liver metastasis in pancreatic cancer. MethodsA subline of human pancreatic cancer cell line MIAPaCa2 (MIAPaCa23) with high liver metastasis potential was selected and injected through the tail vein to establish a pancreatic cancer model in nude mice with high liver metastasis. The capability of invasion in vitro was evaluated by a transwell chamber system. The inhibitory effects of PESV, chemotherapeutic agent gemcitabine, and angiogenesis inhibitor TNP470 on liver metastasis in the pancreatic cancer model were compared. ResultsThe capability of invasion of the MIAPaCa23 cells was significantly decreased by PESV, and liver metastasis was significantly inhibited in nude mice models (7/10) by PESV, which was similar to that in the gemcitabinetreated group (8/10) and higher than that in the TNP470treated group. ConclusionPESV, as a novel angiocytotoxic agent, has an inhibitory effect on liver metastasis in pancreatic cancer.
